It’s interesting how life works in it’s coincidence, in its spirit and shared energy and in how paths cross at a moment in time to somehow enable clarity and engagement in your life. This is a short story about my personal challenge and of two wonderful artists, Mark Scerri and Dana McKeon.
Over a year back, I decided to move forward with my life in Kuala Lumpur, with a plan to expand my services as mentor and life coach and to launch under a new brand “JustDonal” . A baseline requirement, as I felt, was to create a web presence where I could position myself and my services for information and consideration to the world at large. So on the advise of a good friend and fellow coach, Antti Vanhanen from Helsinki, I bought an application called Wix to design and create my own website, as I was determined to do this myself. In reality, buying the app was just the beginning of a process of mass procrastination, personal frustration and utter delusion. Each day I was wholly focused to an outcome. I was designing and writing, deleting and writing and starting over and over again. Ultimately I was losing all sight of what I wanted. To the degree that my days ended with way more Netflix than website. My delusional behaviour allowed me to justify my needing a break ( 1 hour of frustration and 6 hours of Netflix) and so it went on and on, day after day, month after month. To cut a long story short, I got to complete a lot of series and seasons on Netflix and over a year later, as in last week, I finally launched my website! 😱😵😜👍🤗 To those interested, my address is https://www.justdonal.com. Please have a look. Am more than happy to receive your feedback and thoughts about the site and its content. “Always Learning”
But what you may ask has this to do with anything. Well as part of my brand development, I created a tagline which is “Our greatest opportunity in life is in knowing the person we are and in being the person we want to be”. That is not just what I wish for everyone, it is also what I want for myself. It is easy to write, but very difficult to live, as it requires us to have integrity to ourselves, authenticity to the world and to have meaningful and achieveable aspirations. Since writing that tagline, I have sought to get collateral to align with it, but it was a challenge I had failed in until yesterday. Then as if with an alignment of spirit, a friend, Dana McKeon issued a post on Facebook with the release of a new video she was involved with and it was perfect. Dana is a beatboxer, musician and songwriter from Malta who lives in London. We met 9 years ago in Helsinki when she was visiting there. At that time she was finishing her studies as a physiotherapist, but her passion was as a musician. Then and in the following months and years over Facebook, I trolled her, well encouraged her to take that risk, to go for her passion and “to be the person she wanted to be”. Based on her determination, her bravery and her belief, Dana took up the mantle and vocation of music and it is beautiful to listen and see her creations as the years have passed by. I know it hasnt been easy, but to say congratulations Dana in all you have overcome to get here and in all you have created and achieved to date. Please search Dana McKeon out on YouTube and facebook and listen and experience for yourselves.
However in this case, the story isn’t about Dana but about a friend of hers from Malta, Mark Scerri. Mark is a dancer and choreographer and he shared with Dana the challenges he had in seeking to live his dream. Dana was motivated and inspired to share that story, so she wrote a song called “Be what YOU want to Be” and Mark then directed a video for the song which visualises part of his story. It’s a beautiful song and video and I am honoured that they have agreed that I can use it on my home page. Life is amazing and if we believe enough we can be what we want to be. Thank you Dana and Mark and all best wishes to you both on your life journey and in all the joy you do and will bring to peoples lives with your art in all its forms!
